A new exhibit of Witnesses to Hunger photographs from Boston-based participants will be shown at the Massachusetts State House from March 12-15 in Doric Hall.

This news story, which aired yesterday on CNN's American Morning program, featured interviews with Witnesses to Hunger Tianna Gaines-Turner, Barbie Izquierdo, and Jean Culver, as well as Witnesses to Hunger founder Dr. Mariana Chilton.

"Congress has a role in preventing hunger," Inquirer op-ed states

An op-ed published today in the Philadelphia Inquirer highlights the importance of congressional action in the face of widespread food insecurity in Pennsylvania and around the country. Written by representatives from Public Citizens for Children and Youth, the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and Community Legal Services, the opinion piece highlights recent votes in the U.S. House of Representatives to cut essential federal nutrition programs and the looming threat of more cuts in the debt-ceiling deal.

New report shows record numbers of Americans living in poverty

A report released last week by the U.S. Census Bureau found that 46.2 million Americans (15.1% of the population) were living in poverty in 2010. This is the highest number ever recorded by the Bureau, illustrating the deep impact of the recession on American families. Children have higher rates of poverty than any other age group, and the poverty rate among children rose to 22% in 2010.
