Yesterday the Senate passed two bills that will fund programs for unemployed and low-income families that will be financed in part with money from the SNAP (food stamp) budget. These programs, while urgently needed, are unacceptable gambles against the health and well-being of our nation's children, as The Daily News and the Food Research & Action Center point out.
The Witnesses to Hunger exhibit will be on display at the Vineyard Haven Public Library from August 9 through the end of August. On August 10, there will be a free evening program at the library--click here to see the event flier.
The Coalition on Human Needs released a report this week that details how the effects of the recession may linger into the next generation. The report includes testimony from Witness to Hunger Crystal Sears on the positive impact of increased food stamp allotments.
